Random Tumbled Building Stone – Blue Sandstone

This classic blue-grey Welsh sandstone has a naturally riven surface and is a popular random tumbled building stone for houses, garden walls and dry stone walling. Some pieces have natural bronze-coloured faces, creating a striking contrast against the blue stone. The sandstone is tumbled after cropping, for a softer, antique look.

Quarried in South Wales and delivered to us as large blocks, this blue sandstone is then cropped to order by our skilled stone masons at our premises in Pontrilas. We split it along its natural beds to create random building and walling stone of the high quality you expect from Black Mountain Quarries.

We then put it through a tumbling process to soften its faces, edges and corners. This achieves an aged / weathered effect, which is useful in giving an antique feel to a new wall. Our tumbled random building stone is identical to the Blue Sandstone random cropped stone, other than for the tumbling process.

One bulk bag of random building stone cropped to the standard 150mm (6 inch) bed width will provide enough material for 3 to 3.5 square metres of facing stone. A wastage allowance of 10% should always be calculated into your figures when ordering.
