Stone Cladding Slips – Ashlar Gloucester Green Tumbled
The Ashlar stone cladding slip is a contemporary addition to our range of traditionally riven-faced walling stone. They have a sawn rather than cropped face and are ideal for modern house-building applications. Cut from Gloucester Green sandstone, they are predominantly green-grey in colour with pinkish-rust tones.
Country of origin: United Kingdom
Our Ashlar Gloucester Green Tumbled cladding slips are irregular in shape with random heights and lengths, giving the appearance of a true solid stone wall. The Ashlar face combines the natural appeal of real stone with an attractive contemporary sawn finish.
Quarried in the Forest of Dean, the colouring of this sandstone is predominantly green-grey with occasional pinkish-rust seams. The stone has a fine grain with a variety of patterns, and is equally popular for house-building and landscaping.
We make our sandstone slips by cutting the front face from tumbled walling stone to create a lightweight cladding product approx 15-25mm thick. The slips can be fixed directly to walls like a heavy tile. Easy to apply, space-saving and highly cost-effective, they are suitable for professional use and DIY.
L-shaped corners create the appearance of ‘full-thickness’ solid stone walling, but being so slim in format means they are also ideal for new builds where space is at a premium.
All our natural stone slips are suitable for cladding internal and external walls on commercial and residential building and landscaping projects. Ashlar is particularly popular for commercial cladding, which we can cut to standard and bespoke sizes in Callow Red Sandstone, Silver-grey Cornish Granite, or York Stone. See our Ashlar Commercial page for more information and project images.
We are able to produce stone slips across our full range of natural stone products, including Random, Vintage, Coursed, and Tumbled cropped walling stone.
Our stone slips have a sawn back and cropped front, and are cut to a thickness of 15-25mm. The heights and lengths are naturally random, giving the appearance of a conventionally-built natural stone wall. You might also hear the slips referred to as fascias or thins.
In comparison, our traditional random building stone is cropped to a 100mm–150mm (4 -6 inch) bed width as standard, making it a larger and heavier stone.
We stack our natural stone cladding slips into crates containing 20m2 per crate. A full crate will weigh approx. one tonne.
Comparing this to traditional building stone – where a one tonne bag of 4-6in facing stone will cover 3-3.5m2 of walling – our natural stone cladding slips offer a considerable saving on haulage, as well as space on site.
We also have a range of flagstones, cobblestones, lintels and cills to match and / or complement our cladding slips. These are sourced from responsible suppliers throughout the world, to provide our customers with a wider choice of colour, finish and prices.

For external landscaping we provide a range of rocks and stones from all of our quarries, with a choice of BMQ grey-green sandstone, Callow red sandstone, and Cornish silver-grey granite. These are available in various sizes from small rockery stones to 12 tonne boulders.
Whilst we have done our utmost to ensure the stone and colours displayed on our website are accurate, they are to be used as a guide only. Because stone is a natural product, texture and colour will vary from piece to piece. As we work through the quarry, seams will yield slightly different coloured and shaped stones.
The building technique, quantity, colour and type of mortar used will all impact on the look of the finished product. Please bear this in mind when ordering stone products. For larger projects or any projects where a specific look is required, we recommend that test panels are built.
