Stone Cladding Slips – Ragstone Random Tumbled

Ragstone random tumbled is a beautiful limestone quarried in Dorset. A neutral light colouring with grey-brown highlights, it is studded with an array of fossilised sea shells. The tumbled affect gives the stone a softer look and feel which enhances the finish and style.

Our Ragstone random tumbled cladding slips are irregular in shape, with highly variable heights and lengths, giving them the appearance of a traditionally-built stone wall. Tumbling is an extra process which gives the stone a soft edges which creates a different finish.

They are made by cutting the front face from random tumbled walling stone to create lightweight cladding approx 15-25mm thick. Easy to apply, space-saving and highly cost-effective, our stone cladding slips create a real stone finish in a fraction of the time and cost of a conventionally-build stone wall.

All our natural stone slips are suitable for cladding internal and external walls, and for both house-building and landscaping. At only 15-25mm thick, they can be fixed directly to walls like a heavy tile. They are ideal for both commercial and residential properties, for professional use and DIY.

L-shaped corners create the appearance of ‘full-thickness’ solid stone walling, but being so slim in format means they are also ideal for new builds where space is at a premium.

What are natural stone slips?

Our stone slips have a sawn back and cropped front, and are cut to a thickness of 15-25mm. The heights and lengths are naturally random, giving the appearance of a conventionally-built natural stone wall. You might also hear the slips referred to as fascias or thins.

In comparison, our traditional random building stone is cropped to a 100mm–150mm (4 -6 inch) bed width as standard, making it a larger and heavier stone.

For more detail on how we create our slips, plus technical info and FAQs, please see our Natural Stone Cladding Slips information page.

How are the cladding slips supplied?

We stack our natural stone cladding slips into crates containing 20m2 per crate. A full crate will weigh approx. one tonne.

Comparing this to traditional building stone – where a one tonne bag of 4-6in facing stone will cover 3-3.5m2 of walling – our natural stone cladding slips offer a considerable saving on haulage, as well as space on site.

Building and walling materials to match

For paving, both our imported Grey Sandstone and local Llandraw flagstones are a good match for our Ragstone rubble natural stone cladding slips.

We also have a range of cobblestones, lintels and cills to match. These are sourced from responsible suppliers throughout the world, to provide our customers with a wider choice of colour, finish and prices.

For help with matching products, give us a call or drop into our showroom.

For external landscaping we provide a range of rocks and stones from all of our quarries, with a choice of BMQ grey-green sandstone, Callow red sandstone, and Cornish silver-grey granite. These are available in various sizes from small rockery stones to 12 tonne boulders.

An important note about natural stone

Whilst we have done our utmost to ensure the stone and colours displayed on our website are accurate, they are to be used as a guide only. Because stone is a natural product, texture and colour will vary from piece to piece. As we work through the quarry, seams will yield slightly different coloured and shaped stones.

The building technique, quantity, colour and type of mortar used will all impact on the look of the finished product. Please bear this in mind when ordering stone products. For larger projects or any projects where a specific look is required, we recommend that test panels are built.
