Our Vintage Tumbled Building Stone is a combination of coursed and random building stone, put through the tumbling process to soften its faces and edges. It’s a good quality traditional building stone for a lower budget. Our Gloucester Green tumbled vintage sandstone has a fine grain and contains a variety of natural patterns and colours from greens to blue-greys and browns.
Gloucester Green sandstone is available in various formats and finishes, with a choice of random cropped building stone and Vintage walling stone. This particular stone has also been tumbled to give it an authentically weathered finish, ideal when you are looking to create an antique appearance.
Our Vintage Building Stone range offers an attractive traditional building stone at great value.
Gloucester Green sandstone is popular for retaining and boundary walls and garden walling because its range of natural colouring and patterns create a really beautiful backdrop for any planting scheme. However it’s equally effective for public and residential buildings in urban areas in and around Gloucestershire, where it reflects the historical character of the traditional buildings.
What is Vintage tumbled building stone?
Vintage building stone is a mixture of grade B, giving a semi coursed appearance once built.
This stone is supplied on a 100mm (4 inch) bed width as standard, providing at least one usable face per piece. (‘Bed width’ is the width of your footing). Heights and lengths are naturally random which results in every piece of stone being unique in both colour and shape.
After the stone has been cropped to size it is then put through a tumbling process which softens the edges and faces, creating a classic time worn effect
What if I need my stone cut differently?
If you need a different bed width, our in-house stone cropping service can crop the stone to your requirements. We regularly crop to a 100mm (4 inch) bed width, for instance. Whatever bed width you require, the heights and lengths of each piece will remain random.
We can provide corner stones which are made by cropping the random building stone as normal, and then turning each piece of stone at right angles and cropping once more to make a right angled corner. They will have random heights and lengths and are ideal for chimneys, reveals, pillars etc.
If you need less than a tonne, a different bed width or have a delivery address with tricky or limited access, please do give us a call, we will be more than happy to help.
Building and walling materials to match
For the building and walling stone that we lift from our own quarries (BMQ grey-green sandstone, Callow red sandstone, De Lank silver-grey granite) we offer matching ranges of flagstones, cobbles and paving, lintels and cills, steps and edging, wall coping and pier caps. All of these are available in standard sizes, or can be bespoke cut to your spec.
To offer the widest choice of colours, finishes and prices we also source stone from other UK quarries or from responsible suppliers around the world.
Many of these can be closely matched to other stone products, or can be successfully combined with complementary ranges – for example, using lighter coloured stone for cills and coping stones. If you would like advice, examples or ideas about combining stone ranges, do give us a call – or even better, pop in to our showroom.
For natural landscaping we provide boulders and rockery stones from all of our own UK quarries, with a choice of BMQ grey-green sandstone, Callow red sandstone, and Cornish silver-grey granite. These are available in various sizes from small rockery stones to 12 tonne boulders.
An important note about natural stone
Whilst we have done our utmost to ensure the stone and colours displayed on our website are accurate, they are to be used as a guide only. As stone is a natural product, texture and colour will vary from piece to piece. As we work through the quarry, seams will yield slightly different coloured and shaped stones.
How the stone is built, the amount, colour and type of mortar used will have a massive impact on the the look of the finished product. Please bear this in mind when ordering stone products. For larger projects or any projects where a specific look is required, we strongly recommend that test panels are built.
